Social Inclusion Programme

No ALT tag specified

In January 2010 the House of Commons provided the venue for the launch of Harlequins Rugby League's Charitable Trust, "The Harlequins Rugby League Foundation."

Within the Foundation we will deliver all of our community and grass roots activity. The Foundation recognises that sport has a power that can be harnessed to inspire, to educate and to motivate thousands of individuals within our community.

The Foundation's aims are:

• To help build up a more active, inclusive and healthier community
• To improve educational standards within our community
• To help create a safer and cohesive community

Our initial area of focus within the Foundation is the introduction of the Social Inclusion Programme in which we appeal for your help as a supporter of the club.

The Social Inclusion Programme is centred around five key projects below which we believe will actively engage all sectors of the community.

Self Esteem Through Sport (SETS) project targets groups of young men on the brink of expulsion from education. In partnership with local authorities and school sports partnerships, Harlequins RL engage these groups to offer alternative education and introduce Rugby League as a means to build self esteem and confidence.

Junior Leadership project aims to develop the skills of young primary school children in the region providing them with opportunities to gain responsibility, communication and build confidence in their own decision making.

Disability Sport project connects with disability groups and special schools from around the region with touch, tag and modified Rugby League. Through fun games and movement based skills our dedicated and versatile coaches aim to develop skills and enrich lives of disability communities.

Street Rugby projects take Rugby League to the streets, estates and isolated communities of the region. With just a ball and some markers, Harlequins Rugby League coaches will inspire groups to transform their community in to a hub of physical activity and offer new experiences.

Try Learning project brings groups of struggling school children to the Stoop for a short academic course to motivate them to develop literacy and numeracy. The fun, non-conventional way of learning linked with a Rugby environment, inspires young people and boosts confidence and attainment.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO ACHIEVE THIS.

We would like to invite you to become involved with the Foundation's Social Inclusion Programme to enable us to achieve our goals, either by making a donation through our Just Giving page at http://www.justgiving.com/harlequinsrlfoundation-socialinclusionprogramme or by organising a fundraising event on behalf of the programme within your work place.
