We are funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport through Sport England and have approximately £3 million per year to award. The scheme is adminstered in England through the Institute of Sports Sponsorship - part of the European Sponsorship Association - to ensure representation and understanding of the important role of commercial sponsorship in sport. Since our founding in 1992 we have awarded over £38 million and funded more than 5,200 projects across the country. Playing for Success

Playing for Success

The Department for Education and Skills Playing for Success initiative is establishing out of school hours study support centres at football clubs and other sports' grounds. The centres use the environment and medium of football, rugby and other sports as motivational tools, and focus on raising literacy, numeracy and ICT standards amongst KS2 and 3 pupils who are struggling a little and often demotivated.

The Stoop is home to one of these centres called the 'Try Learning' centre. It was launched on 10 March 2008. The Try Learning Centre is delivered in partnership between Richmond Council, Harlequins FC and Harlequins RL. Part of the government's Playing for Success initiative, it aims to improve the numeracy, literacy and IT skills of Key Stage Two and Three pupils through a sports-themed educational programme.

Children from targeted primary and secondary schools in the borough will attend six week after-school courses. The sessions will include fitness work at Cannons Gym, visits to Twickenham Stadium, documentary making and the chance to interview rugby players.

In2Touch

In2Touch

Touch Rugby or TOUCH, as it is known, is a minimal contact sport that is played worldwide by men, women and children of all ages. The game emphasizes running, agility and ball handling skills such as passing and catching.

Touch is a modified version of Rugby in its generic sense, without the tackling, scrumming, kicking and the like, the aim of the game is to score tries. Played on a flat surface, half the size of a conventional sports field, Touch rugby is 'The Game taking the World by Storm'. Although played to a wider extent on a social level, there are now burgeoning commercial leagues in South Africa and England. There are also regular school competitions and development clinics spreading the Touch gospel to everyone.
