Ben Bolger, Max Edwards, Olsi Krasniqi and Martyn Smith all took the huge leap to full time training in early November and have been coping well with their new timetable.
All four are highly experienced young players – holding between them game time with the reserves, club awards and representational honours – but training with the first team is a huge step forward for them.
Harlequins Rugby League head coach, Brian McDermott, explains:
“We’ve handpicked four young men who are only used to training two or three times a week and now they’re training nearly half a dozen times a week.
“It’s a tough environment for them to come into, but it’s going to be very beneficial for them. They’re keeping up with it at the moment and the longer they’re with us, the better they’ll be.”
About the players:
Ben Bolger plays second row and is also studying at Reading University.
Max Edwards plays at loose forward and his amateur club is West London Sharks
Martyn Smyth is a versatile player who particularly relishes opportunities at scrum half. His amateur club is West London Sharks.
Olsi Krasniqi is a prop of Albanian origin and plays for West London Sharks.
There’ll be further updates on the progress of the four youngsters as the preseason continues, so keep checking quins.co.uk
