Despite the sudden cold snap and predictions of snow, the Harlequins preseason training camp began as planned early yesterday morning, as Jon Wells reveals:
"We all arrived pretty excited, but without any knowledge of what we'd be up to over the coming days. There had been all sorts of rumours as to what training at an Army base might bring; some of which have turned out to be true whilst others, thankfully, haven't.
"The first day was very long, with a 6am wakeup call stirring the fellas into action. We must have done about 900 press-ups today, our Army trainer is quite fond of them. The team has always had a strong sense of discipline about us, but it's been taken to another level this week; shouting, crossed arms and colourful language are all strictly off limits
"On or second day we're all going on a run. This didn't sound too bad, until they added that we'll be running with 25kg Army packs on our backs. Wish us luck!"
