Harlequins Rugby League : Dwayne Barker joins Quins RL

Barker will make the move south from Castleford having spent the 2007 season with the Tigers. Prior to joining Castleford, the second rower was a member of the team that helped elevate Hull KR into Super League.

Harlequins RL Head Coach Brian McDermott first noticed Barker during his time with the Leeds Academy when McDermott was on the Rhinos coaching staff. Barker spent five years with the Leeds Academy and won England honours during this time.

McDermott has said: 'Dwayne is a highly skilled and talented player that can slot into the second row or loose forward position. He has a huge amount of potential and he is coming down to London to try and realise that potential.'

'We are very pleased to have Dwayne on board with us for 2008.'

Barker is also looking forward to the permanent move to London having already had a taste of life in the capital in 2005 when he joined the London Broncos for a loan period.

'I can't wait to get down to London and get started. Playing regular Super League has been my goal since I left Leeds and I am really happy to have this opportunity with the Quins.'

Barker will arrive at The Twickenham Stoop next month in time to start pre season training.
