Lamont Bryan Interview
1 November 2007, 11:06 am
By laurenh
Hailing from Croyden in South London, the 19 year old was first recognised by the London Broncos during his time with the impressive South London Storm.
Since joining the Academy 3 years ago Lamont has had his sights set on playing Super League. In 2008 that dream may just well become a reality with the opportunity Harlequins RL have offered him by being part of the first team squad.

In this interview Lamont tells of his happiness at being offered his first professional contract and what he will be aiming for in 2008.

How did you feel when you were offered your contract with the first team?

I was jumping around. I couldn't believe it at first but the coaching staff told me they had analysed how I played and would like to give me an opportunity to play Super League. I was really happy.

Was this the opportunity you had been working towards?

Yeah. I have definitely been working towards this for a while now.

Have you started training for the coming season?

Yeah I have been doing lots of work in the gym with some of the first team squad like Robert Purdham, Chris Melling, Will Sharp and Jonny Grayshon. We've been doing some fitness work together as well and I've been doing my own running too.

It's really good to be training with the other boys - it pushes you harder. It's good to be able to bond with them a bit now too before the whole squad comes back to train together.

What is your preferred position on the field?

I started out playing winger, then I moved to fullback and last season I was playing mainly centre - so who knows, we'll see what the future holds. I don't really mind what position I play - I just want to play, that's it.

What do you see as your biggest challenge in 2008?

The reality. I can't get scared or let the situation get to me and not concentrate. I have to put in 100% at training and playing every week. I have to put everything in - leave nothing behind.

What's your goal for 2008?

I want to be rookie of the year. I want to be top try scorer. My aim is to impress on the field and get another contract.
