Four schools battled it out at St Mary’s University College for supremacy in the 9-a-side tournament organised by Richmond Competition Manager, Mike Skinner, and the infallible School Sports Coordinator for Rugby, Maggie Morrell. Harlequins Rugby League Development Officer Jimmy Giblin ensured the Richmond festival went off without a hitch, delivering an unparalleled school sports product to the entrants, pupils, teachers and volunteers.
The weather held off long enough for the entrants to showcase some fabulous skills on the field, which left onlookers amazed. The ever-present Whitton School and Sports College and Christ’s School again showed their usual might, alongside the bookmakers favourite, Teddington School, who did not disappoint.
In line with the new National Competition Manager’s competition framework, the Richmond Schools Sports Partnership successfully rolled out a boys competition after previously hosting a girls tag festival in November 2008. The strength of the Sport in borough of Richmond is at an all time high, and coincides with the growth local club Richmond Warriors over the past two seasons. The Warriors continue to recruit players from the boroughs obvious talent pool.
Congratulations and well done to all the schools who have contributed to the successful Harlequins Rugby League schools Rugby League programmes this year.
