The new agreement will see the 24 year old playing in the capital until the end of 2011
Since arriving from Wigan in 2006, Melling has proved to be a highly versatile signing, able to play at full back, hooker and on the wing. In 2007 he achieved his first international cap for Great Britain against France. This season he has started every match for the London club and scored six tries.
Speaking today, Chris Melling, who is also a fully qualified physiotherapist, said he had no hesitation in signing:
“The next few years will be very exciting for the club; at senior level Harlequins are developing into real contenders for the Super League, whilst at a junior level we are nurturing young talent and growing the game in London.
“I’m very happy playing my rugby in London and had no doubts about committing my future to Harlequins.”
Harlequins Rugby League head coach, Brian McDermott, said he was delighted to have secured Melling’s services for a further two years:
“Chris recognises that very positive things are happening in London and I’m very pleased that Chris Melling has decided to stay with us.
“He’s got a driving ambition to represent GB again and we’re going to do our best to help him get there.”
