They did this by matching new and additional private investment with Foundation funding, on a pound for pound basis. This was a great opportunity for both investors and community sports organisations to work together to improve the sporting infrastructure of the country.
In 2008 Harlequins Rugby League community department submitting a funding application to Sport England for a Primary Schools Project commencing late 2008 – mid 2009. The project has three major components, Primary School Delivery and Competition, Club growth including school club links and finally flagship events.
The project to date has reached over 9,900 children in both schools and club environment s and has successfully driven club memberships in the London Mini League Clubs.
The 2009 Harlequins RL Primary Tag championship was the culmination of this event, when hundreds of children enjoyed the opportunity to take part in competitive fixtures and grace the very same pitch as many of their Harlequins RL heroes before the Quins v Celtic match.
A big thank you must go to Sport England for their investment, as without such support our programme would not be as strong as it is today.
