Harlequins 16 - 42 Huddersfield
Harlequins Rugby League fell to Huddersfield Giants for the second time in a fortnight to go out of the Carnegie Challenge Cup fourth round.
Revenge was the order of the day, but unfortunately Harlequins were unable to recapture the form that has seen them put in convincing victories over Hull FC and Warrington Wolves in recent weeks.
The Giants opened the scoring after five minuted with a Keith Mason try, converted by Brett Hodgson.
Quins leveled shortyl afterwards when Luke Dorn passed to Tony Clubb who took the ball over the line, followed by a Danny Orr conversion.
However, Huddersfield hit back quickly with tries from Luke Robinson, David Hodgson and Stephen Wild and ended the first half 24-6 up.
And it was Huddersfield who had the brighter start in the second half, with second tries for both D Hodgson and Robinson.
Harlequins didn't give up, and after 50 minutes Karl Temata touched down before Rob Purdham set up David Howell.
However, it was not enough, and the Giants ended with a further two ties to leave the score board reading 16-42 to the visitors when the final hooter sounded.
Afterwards McDermott said: "It's massively disappointing. We got beaten by a better team. Huddersfield showed up and played better than we did. They defended very, very well.
"It's hard to gain any momentum against the Giants. They've got some stuff going. They are definitely hard to break down."
Harlequins Ruby League return to action in the engage Super League on Thursday evening against Les Catalans, and will be hoping to bounceback to winning ways, just as they did after the last defeat to Huddersfield.
