Joe originally played as a junior for Higginshaw Eagles, before entering the Leeds Rhinos academy system. The son of Wigan fitness coach Steve Walsh, Joe spent a brief spell at Bradford in 2006 before coming south to sign for Harlequins in January 2007. A highly rated junior, Joe represented England at Under 15, Under 16 and Under 17 level.
In December 2006, Joe gained international recognition at Junior Academy level when he appeared in both Tests against the Australian Combined High Schools. A hard working prop at Junior Academy level, Joe was a regular for Quins senior academy side during 2007, most often featuring in the back row.
Joe made his Harlequins first grade debut in the memorable Millennium Magic clash against Catalans in May; making three other first team appearances including a starting role in the 18-8 win over Wigan at the Stoop. Joe enjoys all sports including basketball, tennis and squash.
