Matt signed for Quins RL from his hometown club Canberra Raiders in January 2006. Originally a product of the East Canberra Tigers junior club, Matt developed through the Raiders junior levels, representing NSW U’19s, before making his first grade debut against Cronulla in 1997. However after just one further first grade appearance, Matt left the Raiders in 1998 to play in France.

Upon returning to Australia Matt played country football, winning premierships with Gungahlin Bulls in 1999 and 2001. Eventually, after working alternately as a barman, green keeper and warehouse storeman, Matt decided to give professional Rugby league another chance. In 2003 he played in Canberra’s reserve grade side, scoring 26 tries and 122 goals, helping the side to the Reserve Grade premiership. The fairytale was completed when in 2004 Matt was once again given his first grade opportunity, and he has seldom looked back since.

Matt has proved to be an invaluable member of the Quins squad with his ability to play in virtually any position. Indeed during 2007 some of Matt’s best performances came in the back-row, where his strong defence and fine support play earned him cult status with the fans. Matt’s fine form continued into 2008, before in May he unfortunately suffered a severe arm injury to prematurely curtail his season.

Away from rugby, Matt enjoys playing golf where he has a handicap of 12.
