Hailing from Forster-Tuncurry in New South Wales, Scott played his junior football with the local Club Forster-Tuncurry Hawks and went on to win first grade grand finals with them in 1994 and 1995. Scott turned professional with Canterbury in 1996, making his first grade debut against South Sydney in that same year. After one season in Sydney with the Bulldogs, Scott signed Super League forms with the fledgling Hunter Mariners, before joining Melbourne Storm for their inaugural season in 1998.

Scott unfortunately missed Melbourne's Grand Final appearance in 1999 because of injury but compensated a little for this disappointment by making both State of Origin appearances and his Test debut for Australia in a 52-0 win over New Zealand in 2000. A further six appearances for Australia in the 2000 World Cup, including the win over New Zealand in the World Cup final at Old Trafford, were amongst a total of 11 international caps for the Kangeroos between 2000-2004.

An experienced player of the highest calibre, Scott joined Harlequins in 2006 after having helped guide his Melbourne club to their second NRL Grand Final. A hugely talented attacking player at either stand-off or at loose forward, Scott has the innate ability to read a game and make split-second decisions.
