A former Egremont Rangers amateur, Rob signed professional forms for Whitehaven in 1999. Following an exceptional 2001 season Rob gained selection for the England U’21 tour of South Africa. Fine reports on tour and a good opening to the 2002 NFP season led to Rob coming south to play in the Super League with London Broncos.

Representative appearances in 2003 for the England “A” squad against Russia and France, confirmed Rob’s rising status in the game. 2005 saw Rob, now playing largely at second-row, raise his game to another level, scoring a record equalling four tries in a match against Leigh. In 2006 Rob broke two further club records; most individual points (34) and most individual goals (13) in a Challenge Cup match.

Further international honours were achieved in 2006 when Rob captained England’s Federation Shield squad in four matches against France, Samoa and Tonga (twice). In October 2008, after an outstanding season, Rob finally gained his first full Test cap when appearing for England against Wales at Doncaster; a game in which Rob was voted “Man of the Match” after scoring a try and nine goals.

Rob was also selected to represent England in the 2008 World Cup in Australia, gaining in the process two further Test caps against New Zealand.

Midway through the 2009 season, Rob needed emergency surgery to remove a blood clot from his wrist. Rob was undoubtedly missed during his seven game absence before he returned in emphatic style, scoring two tries against Salford.

A fine ball player with a good step and impressive turn of pace, Rob's physical strength and defensive abilities make him a firm favourite of the Quins crowd. Rob enjoys playing golf, shooting and fishing.
