Initially a product of the Greenwich Admirals amateur club in south-east London, Michael is the brother of former academy star Rob Worrincy. A member of Quins RL's academy since he was 16, Michael captained the U'18 academy during their successful 2004 play-off season. Such was his impact on the game that during the same year Michael was selected for the BARLA U'18 tour of Australia.

Michael spent the 2005 season further developing his skills whilst on loan with Hull F.C's U'21 academy side, playing a leading role in Hull's U'21 Grand Final success. A dominant force at the back of the scrum or in the second row, Michael is a great athlete who is both powerful and mobile in the loose.

With his good ball skills, Michael made his first grade debut from the bench against Bradford at the Stoop in May 2006. A brace of tries against Barrow in the Cup followed, before playing the following week, a major role in Quins one point win at Salford on Whit Monday. Subsequent performances attracted positive media attention, but the 2007 season added to Michael's steep learning curve, when injuries to the squad forced him to play on a number of occasions in the tough environment of the front row.

Never taking a backward step, Michael earned the recognition of his coach Brian McDermott for his efforts.
